In this one time class, students will be exposed to different styles of classic winter poetry and will learn how to write poetry themselves all in a safe and supportive environment. Let's learn and have fun together!

In this one time class we will learn about different styles of poetry. We will read several different poets in class such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Robert Frost, and William Carlos Williams and discuss their similarities and differences. We will also discuss the different types of figurative and sensory language that poets use in order to make their writing more unique and interesting. Students will apply what they have learned about poetry by creating their own poems on any topic of their choosing. I will write along with the students and share my poetry so that students will feel comfortable sharing. Students will encourage one another by sharing their work and commenting on what they like about the writing paying close attention to the type of poem, figurative language, and sensory language being used.

Students will improve their understanding of different types of poetry and poets.

I taught middle school English, Reading, and Creative Writing in the public school system for eight years, and I have been homeschooling my two daughters for eight years. I teach a variety of classes focusing on reading comprehension, writing, poetry, and oral language skills. I also offer one on one tutoring as well. I have something to meet the needs of all types of learners! I even have life skills classes and some fun pet classes where we learn how to care for bunnies, cats, gerbils, and hamsters! When I am not teaching, I love to read, write, research best practices of teaching, crochet, play board games with my family, and take family vacations to learn more about nature, science, and history.
