US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - Kindergarten
Poetry is a great way to teach reading to kindergarten and emergent readers. The students will have the opportunity to look at rich vocabulary and learn early reading skills. Poems for young learners have short sentences and are ideal because they are easy to read. There will be many fun filled experiences to develop reading skills. During a mini-lesson, students will learn about concepts of print, phonological awareness, phonics, word study, and fluency. We will read the poem aloud...
1. Students will identify rhyming words and word families. 2. Students will learn new vocabulary words. 3. Students will learn concepts of print. 4. Students will move to the rhythm of the poem 5. Students will improve fluency in their reading.
I have taught poetry in my classroom for twenty- five years. I have also tutored and taught poetry virtually for three years.
