Description

Class Experience

This class will read and analyse a classic poem each day and analyse the different aspects of the poem, poetic structure, devices, meaning and poetic voice. Day 1 will introduce the features that we will use throughout the week, so learners will not need any prior knowledge.

Day 1 - Introduction to Poetry (terms, styles, tools, features)
Day 2 - Poetry Detective in action - William Wordsworth's lovely  'I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud' 
Day 3 - Poetry Detective in action - Villainous Verses :...

This poetry analysis act as prompts for learners to dive deeper into the poem. By considering rhyme, purpose, imagery and a variety of other elements, learners will cultivate a more analytical mindset that they'll be able to apply in other subjects.
An understanding of the different poetic forms and techniques will enrich learner's understanding of poetry, nurturing a love for the art that will improve creativity, language skills and, most importantly, provide limitless enjoyment. The activity can inspire children to write their own poetry with their new awareness of techniques.

I have a BA (Hons) degree in English Literature and a Diploma in Teaching Literacy in Primary and Secondary Schools.
I am currently studying an MA in English Literature and am a qualified English Language teacher with TEFL. Also - a published poet!

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

3 hours 45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
