*** Your learner should be able to read at an average 1st grade reading level to understands concepts taught in this class. Your learner should be able to write a sentence.
1. Introductions: I will introduce myself, and ask students to tell me their names, age, and where they are from (if they feel comfortable sharing.)
2. We will go over online classroom expectations.
- We quitely listen to who is speaking.
- We raise our hand, and we wait to be called on before speaking.
3. We will learn about poetry. We will learn the basic elements of a poem. We will focus on rhyming poems. We will learn about rhyming sounds and rhyming words,
4. I will read a few poems to the students. We will focus on identifying the parts of a poem. We will identify rhyming sounds and rhyming words in the poems.
5. I will show students how I wrote a rhyming poem about a bee.
6. We will start writing our own simple poems. Depending on the amount of discussion and interaction during class, students may not get to finish writing all of their poem. Every class is different, because every group of students is different. In a class with very talkative students, we may not have time to complete the poetry writing. In a class with more quiet, reserved students, we will most likely have time to complete our poems and maybe even share them! I will do my very best to make sure we have time to complete our poetry writing, but I also want to let every student have the opportunity to ask questions and share. I work hard to balance discussion, questions, listening, and writing.
