Poetic Devices for Kids (8+) In this 9-week course, we will be looking at a variety of poetic devices through some fun and engaging poems. We will read and analyze at least three different poems each week. Children will have a greater appreciation for poetry by studying the devices used in these poems. Students will learn about rhyme and couplets, imagery, personification, simile and metaphor, repetition, Onomatopoeia, alliteration, stanzas, and word play use in poetry.
I have taught English and Art for several years at the high school level. I am currently teaching my 8 year old son at home.
Students will be encouraged to write poems each week, applying the literary devices studied during class.
Students will need access to a printer and basic art supplies for their illustrations (For example, markers, watercolours, or pencil crayons)
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
