Description

Class Experience

Our goal for your little is to encourage them to explore and develop interest and skill in the areas of art, music, and movement by pouring our own love and passion into them! We seek to do this by providing engaging and upbeat lessons that your child will look forward to every week!

Outschool Pods are great for developing social skills and building friendships with familiar faces. We never mute learners (except in cases of distracting background noise, etc). We aim to also nurture your child's development of social emotional skills in a classroom setting.

Below are some specific learning goals, but our main priority is that each child finds JOY in art, music, and movement. Wouldn't it be so wonderful to discover a passion for something at this young age!

Art:
-Fine motor skill development and improvement
-Freedom to follow their creativity and use their imagination so that they are empowered to try more on their own
-Color recognition
-Learning beginner drawing and painting skills
-Create beautiful and brilliant compositions using different media and fun techniques

Music:
-Gross and fine motor skill development and improvement
-Improvement in the areas of listening, focusing, and taking turns
-Studies have shown that engaging in music classes from a young age can make your child smarter in reading and math!
-Learn musical concepts such as keeping a beat, what is a rhythm pattern, loud and soft, high and low, smooth/gentle and jumpy music and more!
-Early years music classes can set your child up to learn an instrument
-Life-long love and appreciation for music

Exercise:
-Gross motor skill development and improvement
-Improvement in the areas of strength, balance, and agility
According to the American Heart Association, active kids are more likely to have:
-a healthy weight
-stronger, healthier bones and muscles
-better heart and brain health
-improved brain function, including memory, attention and problem-solving
-better school attendance and academic performance, especially in math, reading and writing
-lower long-term risk of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and some kinds of cancer
-less stress and fewer symptoms of anxiety and depression
-less inappropriate and distracting classroom behavior
-improved mental health and psychological well-being, including confidence and self-esteem
Ms. Gerri- Bachelor of Arts degree in visual arts from UCLA. Gerri worked in the art departments of national publications for 10 years. She was a regular and long-term substitute teacher for grades K-12 in a wide variety of subjects for 13 years. During that time, she lead a monthly visual art program for elementary schools as well. Gerri focuses on using art to help students build SEL skills necessary for their future success. "I believe that “Creativity takes courage.” (Henri Matisse) and that we need to explore and try new things to grow, change, adapt and enjoy life. Art brings out our creativity and it takes courage to try things and put them out there for others to see. I support my learners wherever they are in their journey."

Mrs. Carol- B.A. in music specifically Vocal. Carol is certified in ORFF, a rhythmic based method of teaching music. She has been teaching music for 25+ years. During that time, she created and taught an early years music program in Montessori schools. Carol has taught voice, piano, early childhood music in her own studio, as well as teaching for several summers at a symphony music camp teaching the ORFF method. Carol will be using the curriculum Smarty Pants Music that she created after teaching young children for many years. It is very hands-on. "My hope is that your child will learn to love to sing, clap, play instruments and engage in music. However, not all kids do this right away, they sometimes learn by observing, and more often than not you will hear your child sing the songs and clap the beat or rhythms well after the class is finished."

Miss Shannon- Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Central Florida. She is also an NCCA-accredited Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) licensed in youth exercise (YES certified), nutrition (FNS Certified), and group training through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. She has been training youth in her gym since 2018. Shannon is Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Certified through the Mindful Practices Organization. She has over 10 years of experience teaching children. "Supporting families by helping their children to achieve active and healthy lifestyles is the joy of my life!"
For the art studio, little artists will need: Pencils, eraser, markers, crayons, brushes, watercolor paints and mixed media paper (art paper that can handle paint and water!). An 8x10 sketchbook (or close to that size) is also helpful. A detailed supply list for the 4-weeks will be available one week prior to the start of class. For the music studio, little musicians will need: Rhythm sticks - wooden spoons or anything you can tap together Shaker - fill a small container with rice, beans, beads or popcorn kernels Drum - a pot of plastic container with a round bottom Scarf - fashion scarf or dish towel that can wave through the air for movement Stuffie - favorite stuffed animal friend For the gym, little athletes will need: Two toilet paper rolls- these will be used as our "weights" for some workouts. Stuffed animals are also great for class as we will use them in so many ways! A mat or pad is optional as some exercises will be performed on our knees or on the ground. Please have a small space clear of objects, and water to stay hydrated!
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and no time outside of class.
We trust that you know your little one best! During our exercise time, parental guidance is suggested to ensure your little is staying hydrated, but don't worry we will take plenty of water/breathing breaks! Learners may need some assistance with art projects, but we also encourage their independence as you see fit. Thanks!
