Homework Offered
Students will be assigned homework daily. Each term, they will be responsible for reading a novel outside class time. We will be discussing the novel during class. Students will also receive weekly homework in spelling, writing, math, science, social studies. Students will have practice for Spanish daily.4+ hours per week outside of class

In Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli, the two teenage characters develop an innocent teenage romance. There are incidents in the novel when one of the characters is bullied by her classmates. In Jackpot by Nic Stone, the teenage characters develop an innocent teenage romance. There are also themes around social class and money. In Miles Morales: Spider-Man by Jason Reynolds, there are superheroes and villains. There is some violence. Over The Woodward Wall by A. Deborah Baker is a fantasy novel and the characters travel into a magical world with mystery, adventure, and strange creatures. Keesha’s House by Helen Frost is a story about at-risk teenagers overcoming their difficulties. City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare is about teenagers who destroy the demons in the world. There is some violence and also light teenage romance. Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens is a coming-of-age murder mystery novel. We will be discussing the early history of the United States including colonization and the Revolutionary War. While we will discuss all views, we will always champion the viewpoint of the oppressed and will tell the truth about all sides.
