Description
Class Experience
Plum: Know Your Body is medically accurate and fun education about puberty, growing pains, and everything girls' life. It’s a safe, supportive environment for your daughter to learn about the changes happening to her body, mind, and emotions. She will walk away with less fear and more confidence about keeping her body strong and resilient through her teen years. This 7-week program consists of upbeat interactive lectures with open discussions, review games, and guided self-reflections to go...
Students will learn about the physical, mental, emotional, and social changes to expect during their puberty years. They will also learn how to manage external factors that influence their decision-making; from culture and media to social trends. Students will also learn tools for troubleshooting growing pains unique to the landscape of today’s adolescent girl.
I’m the author of the bestseller What’s Getting Into My Daughter which ranked number one in Teen Health and outranked American Girl health and body books for two weeks. I’m also a clinical researcher, adjunct professor of Child Growth and Cognitive Development, and recognized media expert of adolescent and women’s health and nutrition featured on CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, eHealth Radio, The Brian Tracy Show, and other well-known media outlets.
Students are strongly encouraged to complete the exercises in the Plum: Know Your Body Workbook. The purpose of the workbook is to guide students in deep exploration of their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors so they can create relevant action steps for themselves based on the principles discussed in each lesson.
Students will complete fun self-growth activities each session and be asked to compare their understanding of topics before and after the lessons.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Please understand that I embrace a “know more, fear less” philosophy for this puberty and girls’ health education program. For that reason, the anatomical names for the physical changes of the body and the social behaviors of youth will be discussed. If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback I'm always here for you as your doctor-friend.
To help you prepare your talking points for the questions she may have (and issues that are sure to come), you’ll receive a FREE copy of the first three chapters of my bestselling book What’s Getting Into My Daughter: 7 Golden Rules for Helping Her Thrive Through the Challenges of Young Womanhood! “What’s Getting into My Daughter” is an eye-opening look at the ever-changing hardships, struggles and unrealistic expectations we place on girls and young women. It’s a well-researched must read for anyone trying to relate to young women, and more importantly, help them on their journey. -Baylor Barbee, MSEd - Bestselling Author of Wintality and You’re Perfect and Award-Winning Transformational Development Speaker "Dr. Orie has struck a gold mine with her poignant and timely book, What's Getting into My Daughter.
