Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
Each week, we will cover a few sight words. We will begin on word number 101 from Fry's list. We will use slides to learn the sight words, talk about the letters that spell each sight word, and then play a game each week to practice the words that we have learned that week. Students should know all the letter names and sounds, and may be beginning to read by putting sounds together. This course is complementary to my phonics courses.

The words covered in this class are: over, new, sound, take, only, little, work, know, place, years, live, me, back, give, most, very, after, things, our, just, name, good, sentence, man, think, say, great, where, help, through, much, before, line, right, too, means, old, any, same, tell, boy, follow, came, want, show, also, around, form, three, small, set, put, end, does, another, well, large, must, big, even, such, because, turn, here, why, ask, went, men, read, need, land, different, home, us, move, try, kind, hand, picture, again, change, off, play, spell, air, away, animal, house, point, page, letter, mother, answer, found, study, still, learn, should, America, and world.
Learning Goals
Each week, students will learn the words from Fry's second 100 words. This list of words was developed by Dr. Edward Fry based on the most common words in reading materials used in education. It is commonly used in elementary schools to help students learn sight words. Sight words are words that do not necessarily follow the rules of phonics, and that need to be memorized. Memorization comes through practice and seeing the words over and over.

Hello! I am so excited to teach your child. I teach preschool and early elementary reading classes, and flexible schedule cooking classes. I have a degree in Elementary Education from Utah State University. I taught in Elementary Schools for 4 years before choosing to stay home with my daughters, where I spend a lot of time cooking and baking. I also spent a few months in Brazil where I taught English classes to children and adults. I love making learning fun! I look forward to seeing your child in my Outschool classroom!
