Description
Class Experience
Each week, we will cover a few sight words. We will begin on word number 101 from Fry's list. We will use slides to learn the sight words, talk about the letters that spell each sight word, and then play a game each week to practice the words that we have learned that week. Students should know all the letter names and sounds, and may be beginning to read by putting sounds together. This course is complementary to my phonics courses. The words covered in this class are: over, new, sound,...
Each week, students will learn the words from Fry's second 100 words. This list of words was developed by Dr. Edward Fry based on the most common words in reading materials used in education. It is commonly used in elementary schools to help students learn sight words. Sight words are words that do not necessarily follow the rules of phonics, and that need to be memorized. Memorization comes through practice and seeing the words over and over.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
25 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
