Using autumn themed vocabulary, the students will be encouraged to tap out syllables, which is a reading readiness skill. We will break apart, emphasize and count syllables of the words, while having fun. The students will be engaged by being encouraged to think of words in the autumn category to tap out with their class mates. The class will begin with basic rhythm stick etiquette and tapping out each students name. Followed by a song with rhythm sticks before we begin taking turns tossing...
Set of rhythm sticks. These can be as simple as a set of dowels about 1/2" in diameter and 12" long. Actual sets of rhythm sticks can be purchased at a music store or online. If you have a set of drum sticks sitting around, they can also be used, although I've found them to be a little long in some cases. Two sticks from outside can work but they produce a much softer sound, which may not be as "rewarding" for the student.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
