Class Experience

Students will learn how to read and perform simple snare drum music to the best of their abilities. This will include single notes, rudiments, and multi-phrase exercises. The goal is to learn a general understanding of the instrument, but more importantly to have fun!
I am passionate about music education and believe it is so important in a child's life! I was born into a musician family and have been learning and teaching music for years. I teach in a positive way and encourage each learner to express themselves in their playing. I love helping students discover their musical talents!
The homework for each module will be slightly different to make sure it is best tailored for the lesson taught during the week. For example, Module 1 homework will include a worksheet for defining terms and symbols, while Module 3 homework includes recording a video of the student playing an exercise. Everything will be laid out in the specific modules
Your child will need a pair of drum sticks, a snare drum/snare drum pad/playing surface, and a metronome. Free metronome apps can be downloaded on most devices. All other resources will be provided in the modules!
Students progress will mainly be assessed by me, and each student will receive personal feedback for all of their submissions. There will also be some "graded" online quizzes, but these are more for myself to understand where each student needs the most help. Since music is meant to be fun, there will not be a grading system. Instead, assessments will focus on making sure students have all the information necessary to succeed to the best of their abilities!
No live meetings, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
If students are using an actual drum, practice/play may be loud and disruptive. Having a separate area dedicated to playing may be beneficial. I recommend using a drum pad or something similar, as they are portable, quiet, and more affordable.
