Class Experience

During this class, students will learn the notes on the piano, note values, hand positioning, and songs they can play! If students feel this is a good fit for them, they can continue their lessons either individually with me or in a group setting.

Day 1:
Introduction to the piano keyboard and the white and black keys, identifying notes on the keyboard, and basic right and left hand fingering. Students will learn to play 2-4 songs!

Day 2:
Students will continue to learn their 5-finger middle C scale and begin to identify those notes on the musical staff. Students will also be working on note and note values.

Day 3:
Students will continue to work on identifying the middle C notes on the musical staff and gradually move from finger numbers to note letters as they play new songs.

Day 4:
Students will continue to work on the middle C position, playing both left hand and right hand separately and simultaneously. By this week, students will know their treble clef notes and start on their bass clef note identification.

I will provide students with music that will most likely be familiar to them, but as we progress, I do encourage students to recommend pieces they want to play!
Learning Goals
Students will be able to
1) Learn the basics of music theory and note-naming and positioning
2) Play songs on the piano
3) Interact with others and the teacher through review and short piano theory games

Hello, and welcome to my profile!

My goal is to guide learners through the enriching world of writing, the practicality of important adulting life skills, and the everyday relevance of consumer math and personal finance. Setting learners up for success now and later on in their life is essential, and I hope to be part of that journey! Recently being recognized as an Outstanding Educator on Outschool in both 2023 and 2024 has further motivated me to create an empowering and engaging learning environment for all learners!

My academic journey led me to acquire Bachelor's Degrees in English, Journalism, Writing, Finance, and Music, topped with a Master’s Degree in Education. I LOVE to learn and share that knowledge with others 🙂. Throughout my teaching tenure, I spent 21 years in a high school setting, am an adjunct professor, and the proud owner of a private piano studio. With my experience of 26 years in teaching, both online and in-person, I've honed my skills to become a multifaceted educator passionate about fostering growth and knowledge. I am here to help your learners grow and gain confidence!

🌟My teaching approach is patient and hands-on, designed to engage learners of all ability levels. I've worked extensively with a broad spectrum of students, ensuring that learning is accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

🌟The courses I offer are as diverse as my experience, covering an expansive range of subjects like writing, literature, consumer math, personal finance, and a host of practical adulting skills.

🌟A little bonus for animal lovers—my cat, Tybalt, often makes a cameo during classes! When I'm not in the virtual classroom, I cherish my time with my three amazing children, play the piano, enjoy a good workout, or unwind with a book at the lake.

🌟My mission extends beyond mere teaching. I aim to instill confidence within each student, nurturing them to blossom into the best version of themselves. I'm thrilled at the prospect of being part of your exciting learning journey here on Outschool. Let’s embark on this educational adventure together!
