Class Experience

No time for piano lessons? Learn to play the piano on your own schedule and at your own pace from the comfort of home!
THIS IS A FLEX CLASS. There will be no live meetings.
What sets this format apart from my live versions of this class? Instead of a 30 minute live class shared with 6 others, students will be able to watch and play along with very detailed teaching videos that they can pause and rewind at any time. They will practice their homework assignments and then post video of their pieces in the classroom for feedback and encouragement.
In this class students will begin their piano playing journey through fun and playful pre-recorded piano lessons that will include games, songs and movement to reinforce the concepts learned! They will receive instruction from a teacher who is experienced, joyful, kind and encouraging and has specialized in teaching young learners for over 20 years and is certified as a online music teacher.

Students will learn:
* Position at the piano and posture
* Keyboard Geography and how to find and recognize the keys on the piano
* Finger numbers and how they relate to playing on the piano
* Sounds on the piano, high/low, forte/piano, long/short
* Many songs to play on the piano by rote and by reading
* Patterns and melody

Each lesson will include time spent at the piano learning and playing as well as some fun movement and singing activities to reinforce concepts and keep learners engaged.
Each week by Monday 9pm MST, I will post a link to that week's lesson video or videos in the classroom along with the worksheets and home assignment due by the following Sunday. These videos will be a private link. Each video will be about 20-30 minutes long.
Homework can either be sent through the communication function of Outschool (email) or posted on the classroom page.
Communication will be done through the Outschool classroom. I will check in with each student during the week to check on progress of the homework and address any questions. Students are encouraged to participate in classroom chat and encourage each other on completion of homework.
A robust learning experience will be provided through collaborative learning projects like scavenger hunt games and bingo games and composing to re-enforce learning and build community. In addition, students will collaborate together on a virtual video recital to finish the term.
Each student is encouraged to message me (through the Outschool classroom) anytime they have any questions or thoughts about the class.
Please message me before the start of class if you have any questions.

Students should have a piano or a minimum 61 key keyboard with full size keys to learn and practice on and small amount of daily practice is recommended for progression. Students will not need to order a book for this class as all materials will be provided through digital downloads.

Welcome! I'm Teacher Michelle and I absolutely LOVE sharing the joy of making music. 💛

It's my desire to nurture confidence, creativity and community through innovative piano lessons and music classes.

My focus is on growing happy, creative, well-educated musicians and making the experience of learning joyful, magical and easy as possible!

I want learners to feel important and find new avenues with which to express themselves while experiencing the magic of making music with others.

My Background: From the moment I taught my first Early Childhood Music Class in 1998, I knew teaching was my calling and I have never looked back. In 2001, I started my own music studio and have been teaching preschool music classes, group piano lessons, private piano lessons and even ukulele classes!

When I'm not teaching you'll find me baking, running with my dogs, spending time with my family or cooking up more creative and fun ideas for teaching.
