US Grade 3 - 6
In this one-off class, learners will be introduced to synonyms, antonyms and oxymorons. We will cover the definition and give examples. I will then ask learners if synonyms can be used in every circumstance to replace a word in a sentence. We will look at examples together. I will then give the learners some sentences to correct with synonyms and antonyms. We will then see if their sentences make sense. We will look at word choice and how different words have a different affect on the reader eg “beautiful” and “radiant”. I will mention the Harry Boscow method of using synonyms to affect the audience’s emotions. I teach in a conversation based way in which I give information as the subject specialist, but the learner can ask questions and interact with me and other learners freely. All learners are welcome. No previous knowledge is required.
