Class Experience

Students will practice their note reading, posture, breathing, fingering by playing a fun holiday song together!
Having received both my B.A. and M.A. in Music Performance (clarinet), I am very confident in playing instruments in front of others and enjoy using the skills I have learned to teach younger students. I have taught private woodwind music lessons to children ages 8-16 for about 3 years in a private school.

In elementary school, I learned to play the flutophone (basically a plastic recorder) and was taught the basics of fingering and music theory. I was taught in a group setting of 20-30 students and we learned to play and perform simple melodies. Throughout high school, I enjoyed learning various instruments, one of which was the recorder. The recorder was very easy to learn as I had had previous instruction from the flutophone classes. My favorite recorder player is Michala Petri who inspired me to pick up the sopranino, soprano, and alto baroque recorder. I own two beautiful wooden recorders and enjoy playing various classical pieces in my spare time. I hope to share what I have learned with my future students!
Worksheets will be sent before or after the lesson to practice music theory/fingerings and reinforce what the students have learned in class.
supplies needed for lessons: - plastic recorder (soprano): when first learning how to play the recorder, a plastic one is recommended. There is a wide range of plastic instruments. I recommend the Yamaha plastic recorders, which feature good intonation and easy playability. (If needed, I can provide a link where you can purchase one!) - chair - printer (as worksheets may be provided for class or at-home practice) Learners are welcome to dress up in holiday colors!
25 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Parents may be off camera to assist learners to mute/unmute.

The teacher will be screensharing a Google Slides presentation in which there will be a step-by-step guide to the notes and song designed to set your learner up for success! Students may re-watch the recording after class to practice on their own but will not have access to the slides outside of class nor do they need a separate account.
Google Slides presentation is my own creation!
