Class Experience

In this 55-minute workshop, learners will practice making quick character choices, reacting to what's happening, and reading with inflection. At the beginning of the class, I will assign each learner to a character (or multiple characters) and together we will read through the script of a play (or multiple short plays) written for kids. Character voices and gestures are encouraged, though not required!

This class is perfect for learners who have already taken some acting classes, but want to practice their skills and have some fun while doing it.

The script for each section will be chosen right before class begins based on the number of learners enrolled and if anybody has taken the class before. I am keeping track of who has taken the class, what play they read, and what parts they read for. I do not have an unlimited number of scripts, so it is possible that repeat students may read a specific play a second time, but I will make sure that repeat learners read for different characters than they did the previous time so that each experience is brand new!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello there! I'm Jordyn and I teach acting technique and dramatic play classes.

I hold a bachelor's degree in Theater from Knox College, and I've worked all of my professional life as an actor and drama instructor. Since 2017, I've been performing with a professional children's theater company called Kohl's Wild Theater. We travel locally and bring musicals that teach about animals and conservation to schools and communities in Wisconsin. I have taught many acting classes and workshops at various community theaters and schools, directed multiple youth productions, and worked on well over 50 theater productions in my life so far.

I love acting because I believe it's a unique and powerful way to empathize with my fellow human beings. There's no feeling like being in the moment onstage and making an audience feel something. I teach acting because I love to share that joy, excitement, and understanding with kids and teenagers. I love to see the look on a student's face when they know their hard work has paid off and they've performed a scene well. I love to hear the excitement in a student's voice when they've discovered something new about their character. I love to watch my students grow not only into great performers, but also into insightful and passionate human beings. My career as an acting teacher is an absolute privilege, and I'm so thrilled to be bringing it into a virtual space!
