Beginner - Advanced Level
Hello, I enjoy helping students listen, think, and speak like musicians as well as play their favorite songs. Each lesson is interactive in real time as I and the student meet online with our instruments (piano or keyboard). As the student receives instructions and performs their lesson material, they can get instant feedback and ask questions at any time during the lesson. Students can learn to read music, or play by ear/improvise, or both. Each student chooses the method they prefer as lessons are customized for each individual. We first discuss your goals with piano and then implement a plan of action to help you reach those goals. The student practices each day at their own pace as we maintain a goal sheet and a repertoire sheet of the songs the student wants to play.
Learning Goals
The first goal is to select which approach will be used: traditional note reading, or play by ear/improvisation, or both.
The second goal is to create a repertoire which lists the songs the student wants to learn.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I’m Darryl Girard and I’ve been teaching piano and guitar for over 30 years to people of all ages. I first began teaching in the Dallas-Fort Worth area at Speir Music, Brook Mays, Southwest Music School, and The Center For Creative Living. These days I give private lessons from my home studio in a DFW suburb. I'm happy to have helped many students learn to read music, play by ear, improvise, participate in jam sessions, perform in recitals, and make recordings.
