Class Experience

THIS IS A FLEX CLASS -- NO LIVE MEETINGS.

This is a hands-on science and art class that combines the love of Clay/Modeling Dough and science. A video and a powerpoint of the systems along with step-by step instructions will be added to the classroom each week. Students will receive a worksheet to complete to aid with their knowledge of each of the systems.  Every week the student will be encouraged to upload a photo or their model and share with the class.  Learners are encouraged to add any interesting fun fact that they discovered about each of the systems. The homework portion will include building a model and presenting the photo of the model in the classroom.  Students are encouraged to give positive feedback on everyones model.  A worksheet to label will be included weekly. A game "All Systems Go" website will be added to the classroom and students will record the times against each other each week to see who can beat the clock putting the proper systems together in a fun interactive way.  


Week 1 -  In this class students will build a model of the brain and learn fun facts about the Nervous System. This class will cover the parts of the brain including the cerebrum, cerebellum, and brain stem. At least 5 small cans of Play-doh. Students will be given step-by-step instructions on how to build the model. 

Week 2 - In this class students will build a model of the heart and learn fun facts about the Circulatory System. This class will cover the parts of the heart including the Right Atrium, Right Ventricle, Left Atrium, Left Ventricle and Aorta. At least 5 small can of play-dough or clay are required. Students will be given step-by-step instructions on how to build the model. 

Week 3 - In this class students will build a model of the Digestive System and learn fun facts about the human body. This class will cover the main parts of the Digestive System including the Liver, Gallbladder, Small Intestines, Large Intestines, Pancreas,  Esophagus & Rectum. At least 5 small cans of play-dough are required. 

Week 4 - In this class students will build a model of the Respiratory System and learn fun facts about the human body. This class will cover the main parts of the Respiratory System including the Nostrils, Trachea, Bronchi, Cilia-Mucus, Lungs, and the Diaphragm. At least 5 small cans of play-doh are required. Please print the attached worksheet.

5 cans of play-doh or Clay and a plastic knife. Please print worksheets provided.
