Teacher expertise and credentials
As a certified teacher of students in grades K-8 for over 30 years and holder of a Masters Degree in Education, I am proud to say that my teaching background and experience speaks for itself. The vast majority of this experience has been with teaching technology to children. With this said, you can be assured that your child will be receiving top notch instruction from a warm and caring teacher.
Why a sports card class? When I was in third grade, a friend of my father gave me a whole set of 1972 Topps baseball cards. Well, being an avid baseball fan, I was indeed thrilled with this gift! My passion for collecting sports cards was started and it has continued to this day. I began integrating sports cards as an educational tool when I was completing my student teaching in an elementary school setting. A student had brought in a sports card price guide magazine and I asked him if I could borrow it. I quickly thought of some ideas on how to use this wonderful hobby as a way to support the instruction of language arts and mathematics. The idea that I selected, and have continued to use successfully throughout the years, is the Sports Card Collecting and Organization unit. Students' language arts skills, through reading the information presented on cards, and math skills, by calculating years, batting averages, etc. have certainly enhanced my students skills in these subject areas. Technology is obviously another area that is enriched through my class. Not only is the instruction already online, but your child's knowledge of and ability to use a database will also be increased.
I do hope that you will consider registering your child to be a part of this extremely fun and interesting class. Should you have any questions, kindly feel free to contact me. I would be happy to respond to them right away.
Happy Card Collecting!
