Class will start by discussing how to plan a small garden, with plenty of time for questions and answers. We will then read seed packs and ‘shop’ for seeds, while learning how to start them indoors. I encourage on-topic participation, either through the chat or microphone. Since I am a farmer in New England, I would strongly encourage students to be from this area, because growing anything outdoors varies so much across the country. Although I would never discourage students from my class, I feel that the information provided will be much more suited to this region, and the timing of planting outside varies greatly from California to Connecticut. We will spend the first week discussing our current or future growing spaces, and our wishes and goals for our gardens. Students will make a list of plants they wish to grow, and we will spend time going over each plant's growing requirements to ensure success! We will move on to the indoor growing space, and learn about what seeds need to grow inside, and have each student make a plan for their individual homes. As a class, we will 'shop' for seeds, and I will provide live demo's on planting, watering, and caring for our plants indoors. Each student will have the option to submit their outdoor garden measurements and I will demonstrate how to plan a garden outside!
Learning Goals
Students will learn the basic requirements of starting seeds inside, planning for an outside garden, and learn some top tricks of the trade!
