Description
Class Experience
Students will learn how to crochet a pumpkin using three different colors. Students should know how to make a slip knot, create a chain, single crochet, and double crochet. In the first 5-10 minutes, we will review the basic stitches with a quick exercise of creating a leaf for the pumpkin by practicing single, double, and treble crochet for review. We will discuss what yarn works best with this project versus other types of yarns. Then we will take 5-10 minutes to discuss the color wheel...
Students will learn to create a 3D project using crocheting in the round, the proper method of changing colors, and how to carry colors throughout a crochet project. Students will also learn how to use color to create a pattern.
I have taught high school art for ten years and have a Master of Art Education. Before my career as a teacher, I was a professional graphic designer for five years for the Love Advertising agency and the Houston Chronicle. Students will view a PowerPoint on color schemes. I do not believe this is a sensitive or high-risk topic but have made every effort to be transparent with all expectations in this course.
At home, students will finish to row 14 of the crochet project, cinching it together, stuffing the pumpkin, and gluing on a wood stick or cinnamon stick. Then take a picture of the completed project to share with me and the class.

1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
We will not be viewing or discussing anything of a prohibitive nature. I remind all students before class that comments during the discussion are to be kept positive. For finishing the pumpkin, students may need to use a glue gun to secure the stick to their project.
I will provide students with a written pattern for home use. Please do not share this pattern.
