Description
Class Experience
Students will learn about the science behind biology, medicine, and infectious disease. They'll become familiar with how humans affet the world and how the world can affect humans as it pertains to infectious disease. They'll be able to understand how diseases of the past have shaped our history and what we might be able to look forward to in the future. Students will learn about viruses and how viruses cause disease How we can treat or prevent infections Where diseases come from and how they've evolved History and stigma attached to some of the infections Some of the ways doctors and scientists have tackled some the worst epidemics and epidemics they're still working on
I have a Masters degree from Tulane University in molecular biology with a particular emphasis in virology. I've published work on Dengue Fever and the immune system and I've taken the World Health Organization trainings on the Coronavirus. This class has been created with consultation with medical professionals on the front line of the COVID pandemic and all information is from peer reviewed journals.
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
