Are you ready to set sail on a journey of discovery and adventure? Join our weekly ongoing pirate class and learn all about the daring lives of these notorious seafarers. This class is taught by a the Pirate Queen Mrs. Barbara, a historian writing her dissertation on piracy in her PhD history program! Each week, we will delve into the history of a different pirate, exploring their stories of treasure, battles, and bravery on the high seas. You'll learn about a new pirate every week, from the most famous like Blackbeard to the lesser known but equally formidable pirates like Grace O'Malley and Anne Bonny. Not only will you get to learn about these fascinating historical figures, but you'll also have the chance to participate in exciting group discussions and demonstrate your learning (and creative pirate spirit!) in a short drawing at the end of each class. We will start with a fun warm-up where I pull a new item out of a treasure chest and we discuss what it is and how it relates to today’s class. They will be taught some chronological facts about the person, complete a whole group activity through google slides, engage in group discussion and then create their own drawing of the pirate that week. This class is great to open a door to this time in history where rebels chose the life they wanted and refused to be run by the borders and restraints of conventional society. So if you're a young student who loves pirates, history, and adventure, don't miss out on this opportunity to join our weekly pirate class. Here is the tentative schedule: Week 1: Anne Bonny Week 2: Bartholomew Roberts Week 3: Benjamin Hornigold Week 4: Blackbeard Week 5: Calico Jack Week 6: Ching Shih Week 7: Christopher Moody Week 8: Edward Low Week 9: Grace O’Malley Week 10: Henry Every Week 11: Mary Read Week 12: William Kidd SUPPLIES: Paper Pencil Coloring utensils ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: SYDNEY BARBARA, PAINTING PIRATE QUEEN: Sydney Barbara is a historian, a passionate artist, and published children’s book author. She’s also a pirate expert. Yes, that’s right! She already has her Master’s Degree in History, and is currently pursuing her PhD in History and writing her dissertation on the History of Piracy! Arghhh! She loves studying and teaching history because she knows it is the ultimate learning tool for our present. You can find any answer to a present day problem just by looking throughout history. Her art practice involves mixed media, painting, and illustration. She has published the first in a series of children's books titled” Why Did the Lord Create the Sea Otter?" It is all about the different animals on our planet that have specific purposes for being here. She likes to remind her students that they too have a very important role to play on this planet, just like the animals. Her classes are fun and relaxed and full of fascinating new facts and experiences. In her spare time, you’ll find her making music, painting furniture, working on her next book, or caring for her little white bundle of puppy fur joy, Lady.
