Through this course, students will be introduced to historical individuals, colonial powers, the system of international trade that drove individuals to piracy, and the ways that nations tried to put a stop to piracy. Students will gain an understanding of how historians come to understand Pirates and the individuals that fought against them. Students will get an understanding of the contrast between the life of a pirate, the life of a merchant sailor, and the life of a Royal Navy sailor.
No homework will be assigned, but students are encouraged to continue to research into this exciting area of history.
