Class Experience

Please join me, for our fully interactive reading and comprehension class as our learners become part of the Pig Adventures. Each learner will have the role of either a character or narrator in the adventure and practice reading out loud. We will engage in discussion throughout the class and we will have a quiz and game at the end of our story to test comprehension. The main focus in these adventures is not only reading but also listening. This class uses the Nearpod App. If you are new to Nearpod it is super easy to use and I give detailed instruction prior to class as well as in class on an as-needed basis.

The class will be on the same day and time each week. This class is designed to run through the entire collection of Pig Underwater Expeditions starting at the beginning. This is a subscription-based class and you are free to subscribe and unsubscribe each week as it meets your learner's schedule and needs. Please note that it is the parent's responsibility to unsubscribe if your child is unable to attend. There is limited seating available for these classes so my refund policy will be strictly adhered to.

Each class is a stand-alone class and does not require previous classes or knowledge. This is not a storytime, our learners will be required to read out loud. Please ensure your learner is at an early reading level and past their a,b,c basics. I will assist our learners with reading as needed.

Please be aware that the Pigs Underwater Expeditions is an ongoing series that begins with Pig Discovers Orca's and cycles through all the adventures until it comes back to Orcas. As this is a new class I am adding classes continually. We will continue to cycle through the adventures until I close the class. It is the parent's responsibility to track the classes that their child has taken if they do not want to continue through the adventures a second time as learners signup a different week throughout the series.

Week of January 17-22 Pig Discovers Orca's
Week of January 24-29 Pig Discovers Sea Turtles
Week of January 31- February 5 Pig Discovers Narwhals

Week of February 7-12 Pig Discovers The Blob Fish
Week of February 14-19 Pig Discovers The Yeti Crab

Each month a lineup of the classes will be posted in the classroom. On the day of class, the Nearpod link will be added to the classroom a minimum of 30 minutes prior to the start of class so parents can set up their child’s device. The code will also be offered in the zoom class for parents who want to link to the story through zoom.

Please note that this class is fully interactive. Parents must understand and gauge their own child’s ability to interact on the screen for our activities. All of our little learners are unique and special with their own level of understanding and ability to use technology. Touch screens or iPad's are the easiest for most learners but not required at all. If your child uses the mouse or trackpad that is great. Be aware I am flexible with ages outside of 4-7 participating, it is up to the parent of the learner discretion but it is made for the general 4-7 age bracket.

The Nearpod file share code for our lesson will be in our Outschool classroom 30 minutes prior to class and again offered in the zoom class chatbox once class begins if you require assistance with setting it up. You can run Nearpod on a separate device but link through the OS classroom or run it in zoom tiling it with our class. It is all personal preference. I encourage you to link to the story prior to the class time if you are able as this will get our class moving much faster.

look around at 3D locations and play games. You are responsible to know your child’s ability or to assist them if needed as well as understand your home internet capability.

Learning Goals

In this class, our little learners will read an original story about Pigs Underwater Expeditions. Our learners will read the story out loud as well as answer comprehension questions at the end in the form of a quiz and a game. These activities will vary.

Please note, I use Nearpod to guide our little learners through the story and activities. Parents must understand and gauge their own child’s ability to interact on the screen for our activities. In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses Nearpod. The code and setup will be supplied at the beginning of class. The story is shared with students through Nearpod, the story is an original story written by myself, Shannon K. Auringer. If your little learner does not know how to operate their device I would appreciate you showing them how. Welcome to the home of The Adventures of Pig (and other things).
My name is Ms. Shannon and I am an entrepreneur!

I live in Canada with my husband and my two teenage daughters. We share our lives with 8 chickens, 2 silver tabby cats: Juergen and Pig, and a hedgehog named Rocket. I also have two adult sons who go to college and live on their own.

I have been fortunate in life to have had the opportunity to wear many hats in life. I am an entrepreneur in my heart and soul.

I bred Persian cats for a number of years, started and operated a concrete company, and taught English as a second language. Currently, I am the CEO of a helicopter parts distribution company and I design and teach courses on various subjects for both adults and children.

Living life with passion and drive is my key to happiness. I believe strongly that we can live life on our own terms and create a life of intention and gratefulness. “just jump in" is my own personal mantra. What is the worse that could happen, failure, rejection?

In 2018, I appeared on HGTV Caribbean Life as I made a major life shift and bought a home on the island of Utila. We wanted out of the rat race and jumped into a life of adventure, beaches, and meeting new people.

I hold an English degree in Creative Writing and have been a published writer for 14 years. My classes revolve around discussion and collaboration. I know from experience, that many times we can be stuck with an idea until a fresh set of eyes show up. Kids enjoy talking about their ideas and sharing with others, but can you guess what they like even more? Helping! During my time teaching an early writers lunchtime program at both elementary and middle school level, I was amazed to see how excited and on fire my students would become when helping others craft their stories! Imagination and creativity is like an active volcano, as the energy grows, genius and originality begin to erupt to epic levels!

Join me for adventure time and laughter my new friends!
xoxo
