US Grade 4 - 7
Students will improve creative writing skills while having fun in this high-energy, interactive class! They will begin a short story inspired by a picture that can be worked on after class as well. Each class will begin with a verbal warm-up game to get creative juices flowing. Next, students will participate in a short lesson specific to improving a specific aspect of creative writing. Lessons will include instruction in: - Getting ideas for writing - Power of 1st sentences - Choosing juicy words - Developing characters - Incorporating conflict - Show-don't-tell - Thinking outside of the box - Punctuating quotes - ... and more! Students will then receive a link to a shared whiteboard (Google Drive document) where they will see the picture assigned for that week and can type directly in their assigned box within the document. (They can choose to write on paper instead). Students will be invited to share their stories with the group each week (as time permits) and receive feedback from the instructor. Ongoing support and guidance will be provided as well.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their creative writing skills, especially as it pertains to thinking fast and thinking outside the box so their writing is more creative and dynamic.
