Class Experience
Visualizing as you read is such an important comprehension skill. In Picture It! - Visualizing with Poetry, scholars learn how to create vivid mental pictures to support as they read. This will assist them with reading across all genres. Together we will read a variety of children's poetry (including works from Shel Silverstein and Jack Prelutsky), draw what we saw as we read, and share our work with our peers by showing our pictures and talking about what we drew and why. Scholars will learn to create vivid mental images as they read in order to aid reading comprehension.
Students should bring paper and drawing supplies of their choice to the table for this class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
