Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 1
Beginner Level
In this one-time class, learners will read a teacher-created story about a horse named Pickles. Before reading the story, we will go over important words seen throughout the story. Some of the words will have pictures under them to help early readers remember the words. Learners will be encouraged to take turns reading the story, however, if they wish to just follow along and listen that is fine too. The story has short repetitive sentences for readers to become familiar with the words and the structure of the sentences. The story is actually about numbers (1-10) and we will practice counting the number of animals Pickles sees throughout the story. We will discuss the different animals as the story goes on. The story is presented as a slide show so that it is visually easy for all learners to see the words and pictures throughout the class. At the end of the story, we will answer short comprehension questions about the animals Pickles saw at the farm.

This class is great for beginning readers and ESL students.
Learning Goals
Students can start to learn to read by using some picture clues and practice counting from 1 to 10.
