Description
Class Experience
Students will work with me one-on-one to develop the skills necessary to play the piano and/or sing. We will meet online once a week for a half hour session. Each lesson begins with a short review. This gives the student the opportunity to show what they have been working on and ask any questions. New material will be introduced each week. Students will have the opportunity to work on each new concept during the lesson. Videos will be posted to the classroom when beneficial for home...
For piano, students will learn how to play the piano and read music. We will start by learning our fingerings and then move on to key names. After that, we will learn how to read on the grand staff. Theory and technique are included in each lesson. Students will be able to progress at their own pace. For voice, students will learn the basics for proper breath, posture, diction & projection while singing. Songs are chosen by the student, and I am always willing to provide song suggestions. Performance techniques are also covered such as staging and how to incorporate various theatrical and stylistic elements.
This is my 20th year teaching private piano lessons. I thoroughly enjoy working with young learners. My approach is fun and engaging! It is very important that beginners receive a solid foundation when it comes to learning music. Showing students fun ways to memorize notes or hold our hands while we play is something that sticks with them forever. Helping a child build confidence in a new skill is very exciting work!
At the end of each lesson, the student will have clear instructions on what and how they need to practice for the following week. When neccessary, I will post videos to the classroom to help with at home practice.
For beginners, I usually use Alfred's Level 1A lesson book. This is available at amazon.com or where music books are sold. If you have another method book, I am able to work with that as well.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Parents are more than welcome to sit in on lessons. Having someone to help position the child's hands is sometimes necessary. Also, parental involvement makes at home practice far more effective and fun!
