This is a beginning piano class that is the next step after Primers I. Previous Primer I class enrollment is needed to take this class. We cover the following topics in class: the grand staff, bass clef, note names and how to find them, and rests. We begin to learn to read music in this class. We will be identifying notes on both the treble clef and bass clef staves. We will begin the class with finger exercises and a quick warm-up. We will then begin covering material that is outlined in the syllabus. As we learn songs, students will be given the opportunity to perform for each other. The syllabus for this course is as follows: Week 1: Bass clef F, pages 41 and 42 Week 2: Steps on the Grand Staff, pages 43 and 44 Week 3: Learn Bass B, pages 45, 46 and 47 Week 4: Learn Bass A, pages 48 and 49 Week 5: Learn Bass G, pages 50, 51 and 52 Week 6: Learn Skips, pages 53. 54 and 55 Week 7: Learn Bass C and D, pages 56 and 57 Week 8: C 5-Finger Scale, pages 58 and 59 Week 9: C 5-Finger Scale, pages 60 and 61 Week 10: Question and Answer, pages 62 and 63 Week 11: The tie, pages 64 and 65 Week 12: Ties, pages 66 and 67 *The syllabus is subject to change based on the needs of the class.* Students will be asked to practice weekly at least three times for 5-10 minutes to help them progress on piano. This practice should include the songs that we covered in class as well as any assigned music theory work. Music theory work may include personal composition, rhythm, Kahoot game, and note searches. A link will be provided to find a fun piano chart that works for your student, so your student can keep track of their progress. Videos of me playing the songs on the piano (via link to Google Drive) will also be provided so that the student is able to watch and hear how the song is suppose to be performed on the piano.
