Piano Primer: Songs on the Black Keys A: 4-Day Crash Course
Class experience
This 4-day class (or summer camp) is an introduction to piano lessons for NEW young beginners. Classes will build on knowledge from one week to the next. Practice between classes is highly recommended. Access to a keyboard/piano and view of the screen while playing is required to participate during class time. For NEW students, consider starting with the precursor class Pre-reading Piano: Black Key Patterns (Memorized songs.) NOTE: This is 4-day camp, where students learn cumulatively...
This class is taught in English.
Students will... * learn to identify groups of 2 and 3 black keys on the keyboard. * recognize high and low sounds on the keyboard. * identify their fingers by standard finger numbers. * clap and play to standard rhythm notation with quarter, half, dotted half, and whole notes. * be able to sight-read and perform songs using rhythm notation and finger numbers.
I teach classes on a variety of arts-related subjects: * piano, sight-reading, song-writing; * realistic drawing techniques; * comic book creations & anime drawing styles; * digital arts, Photoshop, graphic design. Look at the bottom of my profile to find my other classes. → https://outschool.com/teachers/Elizabeth-Essex ← As a teacher with over twenty years of experience, I have been running my own piano studio full-time for the last decade. I started learning music in piano lessons when I was four years old and am currently teaching my 15th academic year as a piano teacher. I also am a former public school art teacher, university adjunct professor, swim instructor, dance teacher, and math tutor. The Suzuki method is at the core of many of my ideas about teaching music. Shin’ichi Suzuki believed that music is like a language and therefore should be taught like one-- learning to speak before reading and writing and that learning should take place in a loving and supportive environment, with constant repetition, and with helpful modeling from the parents. Like Montessori, the Suzuki philosophy is student-centered, includes lots of learning games and enjoyable activities, and demands that learning activities be planned according to the student's needs and level of development.
1 file available upon enrollmentEach learner should have access to a piano or music keyboard. Sheet music will be provided.
To fully participate in any music class, it's best to check your audio settings in Zoom first! Parents will also be expected to assist with at home practice throughout the week. Absolutely NO EATING during class. Learners will need the constant use of both of their hands as well as to engage with their full attention. Learners who are eating on camera may be asked to leave.
