How many times have you said asked your child's piano teacher "How often should we practice?" or even wondered "How do we practice?" The saying "Quality over quantity" rings very true in music learning, but quality can only improve so much if the quantity is lacking. Signing up for this class will help take the job of "nagging" your child to practice off of your plate. This class is designed to provide learners three things: 1. A guaranteed practice schedule 2. Excellent practice warm ups* 3. Tips on how to practice their pieces more efficiently *warm ups will be presented to two levels: young beginners and elementary Our short 15 minutes will be: 1. Scales -5-Finger or One Octave 2. Chords -In fifths or full chords 3. Arpeggios - Broken Chord or One Octave 4. Sight Reading -Students will be provided a level-appropriate sight reading exercise prior to class that will need to be printed and ready. Each class I will go over how to prepare to play a sight reading piece. Learners will be expected to play their sight reading in class. 5. Tip of the day -I will provide tricks and exercises to practice problem areas, how to stay motivated, and much more! After they have finished their 15 minute warm up with me they will be instructed to pull out their books and continue practicing their assigned pieces with their private teachers. *More advanced students are welcome to join! Parents should be aware of their students level of understanding before signing up, but all levels can potentially be very successful in this warm up class!
Learning Goals
Students will improve their practice methods and create a consistent practice routine and schedule.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have:
-a degree in music performance
-been studying piano since 1990
-teaching since 2009
-facilitated music therapy sessions with seniors and youth
-taught music and movement to in preschools
-Former certified Kindermusik instructor
My philosophy is that everyone should have access to music making. While I was formally trained and I also teach privately using many traditional methods, I believe that some the BEST music comes from just "goofing off" or "happy accidents". I LOVE listening to music so don't be surprised if I send you links to great songs during your time with me. Also, I love cartoons. I don't think that will ever change, so I'm grateful to have two sons that I can use to excuse my cartoon watching.
