As a 30+ year veteran piano teacher (and piano hacker!) I will share exclusive secrets to mastering the most famous piano piece of all time: Beethoven's Fur Elise. No music reading required! In the first session, we learned the A and B sections of the song, which comprise most of the piece. As a whole, these first two sections are very musically satisfying in their own right as a complete performance. But for those who really want to master the entire Für Elise just as Beethoven wrote it,...
Session 1: Review of the first AA BA BA section. (In addition to the in-class review, review materials and videos will be provided in the classroom before the first session.) Beginning the C section, first part Session 2: Continuing the C section, first part Session 3: Review, C section, "fun part" Session 4: Review, D section, first part Session 5: Review, D section, "fun part" Session 6: Review, Final Recital!
I have been teaching piano for 30+ years, and my student-centered philosophy has been to learn to play the music you love as soon as possible. Oftentimes, traditional sheet-music reading oriented piano instruction misses the simple patterns that make it possible to play much more complex and satisfying music than we thought we could. So I've helped hundreds of piano students play the music they love a lot faster by using "hacks" like patterns and piano chords.
Learners will be expected to check the classroom for instructional media and practice daily in between classes. Practice time can vary widely depending on the student, but a minimum of 20 minute practice sessions is a good guideline.
2 files available upon enrollment🎹Please be at your piano or keyboard and ready to play! 🎹It is helpful if you can set up your device so you can easily see the screen and the keyboard at the same time. 🎹If there is a way for the instructor to see the learner's hands on the keyboard, that is helpful, but not required. (It's more important that the student can easily see the screen. 🎹Please download the PDFs and make sure that you are using the best Zoom settings for music classes. Remember, that you may have to "enable original sound" each time you sign in to class.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
Learners will be more successful if the parents support a regular practice schedule, and encourage students to ask questions in the classroom if needed.
All resources and media will be provided in the classroom.
