Playing fun, full sounding, and satisfying music on the piano doesn't have to be hard! We're going to learn how to play the blues and boogie-woogie on the piano by learning a few simple patterns that we can recombine in a gazillion ways for endless hours of piano-poundin' fun. Along the way, we'll pick up some music history and music theory that will help us in all our music learning. Each class will introduce new patterns and structures, how to play them, and how to use them to improvise your own boogie-woogie jams. Then we will all practice the new patterns while the instructor gives individual attention and coaching to each learner. We will finish every class with a rockin' jam session. After each class, the instructor will provide practice materials and practice videos in the classroom. The students should practice these exercises as close to 5 or more days per week as possible - 20-minute practice sessions are recommended. By the end of the class, the students will have developed their freedom to improvise great-sounding and impressive blues and boogie-woogie improvs that will be totally fun and entertaining to themselves, friends, and family. In the process, they will have claimed their "improviser's mindset", tapped into their creativity, learned the basics of music theory for chord progressions, developed their piano technique and endurance, and freed themselves to create their own music on the piano. While a dedicated beginner can succeed, it's recommended that the students have previously played a little piano, and that they know the names of the notes on the piano. And this class may be repeated for those who want to take their skills and expression to the next level.
