What's included

1 live meeting
25 mins in-class hours per week
Homework
1-2 hours per week. Google slideshows with the weekly music will be provided to the learners' emails after class and can be printed or viewed on screen for practicing throughout the week. Piano practice should be included in the learners' weekly commitment to this class. 10-15 minutes 3-5 times during the week would promote mastery of the new material. Learners are invited to email a video of their practice during the week for feedback within 24 hours from Mrs. Pauli.
Assessment
✉️ Near the end of the term, an email will be sent to each learner with the recommendation for repeating the current class for mastery or moving on to the next class for more challenging material.

Class Experience

Beginner Level
This ongoing piano class is for beginner piano students who are interested in an introduction to piano. No prior experience is necessary. Learners need to have a piano or keyboard during class to play along with Mrs. Pauli. Learners will need to be able to see their screen to view the music while playing on their instrument. No book purchases will be necessary in this class. All music has been arranged by Mrs. Pauli and will be provided in a slideshow after class.

The Piano Music Class series, PMCA - PMCJ, runs by seasonal term. This Primer class is available for your student to start learning piano now, even if it is the middle of the term. Your learner can take as many of these ten different weekly lessons as they would like in order to feel confident finding their way around the keyboard before they transfer to Piano Music Class Level B next term. Each class is designed to be a starting point for new learners and progress for continuing students.

🔠 If your student is an absolute beginner, I recommend one of the Introductory courses:

🎹 Piano Music Class Primer: 🎹

🎶We have a wonderful opportunity to have that "It's Music Day" feeling! 🎶
Every week, learners will be given an opportunity to play in front of classmates and for feedback. We will work on reading new lines of music to continue to practice independently. This class is designed for exposure to new music and sight-reading every week.

🎹Practicing between classes is recommended and will be necessary for continuous progression through levels of the Piano Music Class series as the material increases in difficulty for each level.

✅Please schedule your practice times as part of your commitment to piano classes in order to progress through the music at an enjoyable rate. Studies have shown that piano students who practice between lessons pursue music longer and have a better experience in lessons. Here is an article from Steinway & Sons about the benefits of practicing piano: https://www.steinway.com/news/features/the-benefits-of-playing-piano.

Outschool's no-show policy is that class may be closed after 10 minutes if no learners have logged on.

Parental Guidance
Google Slideshow links for each lesson are provided after class to the learner's Outschool system email. Music slides may be printed for practicing off screens. Any youtube videos posted on the Classroom page will be opened in a small window on Outschool. Learners will NOT be asked to go to Youtube on their own.
Supply List
🎹 Access to a piano or keyboard during lesson where the learners elbows are the same height as the keys. 🔥 Keyboards on tables are often too high (chest or shoulder height) which can harm wrists and hinder movement 🔥. Stand at the keyboard, find a tall chair, use a cushion, or use a keyboard stand to make the keys at the proper level.

💻Students need to be able to see the classroom screen where the music will be shown in a slideshow while they are sitting at their piano.

👂It is very important to make sure I can hear your piano and that it is not blocked by the background noise suppression through Zoom.

👉**Please turn on "Original Sound for Musicians" in the Zoom audio settings before class. **

If you need instructions on how to enable this setting, please watch this youtube tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEZMRtrSsYY

Students using a desktop or laptop can adjust this setting during the meeting. However, students using a phone or tablet must enable Original Sound before entering the class or I may not be able to hear your piano.

🎼 Learners will get access to a class slideshow in their email with the songs and homework worksheets weekly for practicing. A 3-ring binder and plastic page protectors may help you keep the printed music sheets organized.

📝 Learners may like having paper and pencil.
