The student will learn easy 5-note Major Scales. The student will be able to: - Review the Name of the Keys and Their Location - Recite the Musical alphabet Forward and Backward - Identify and Play Half and Whole Steps - Play the C, G, D, A, and E Major 5-note Scales - Play the C, G, D, A, and E Major Arpeggios - Identify and Play Each Root Position of the C, G, D, A, and E Chords The class is a mixture of games, teacher demonstration, student/teacher interaction, student performance, and several Q&A segments. Students will learn how to formulate these scales based on a pattern of whole and half steps. We will use demonstration and performance for most of the class. My goal is to have students playing as much as possible. There will be times when they will be able to play on their own to practice before playing for the class. Students should have finished at least 1 year or a level 1 book in piano. They should know the names of the keys and where they are located. They should also have the ability to play with both hands at the same time. *If your student is a new beginner with no experience, consider taking my Summer Piano Camp! or Piano Boot-Camp for Beginners. After this class, they would be ready for Piano Mastery: Scales and Arpeggios. Items Required for Class: Computer / Tablet with internet access for class A piano with audible sound. FAQ: Does the student need prior experience with music? They should have finished 1 year or a beginner level piano book. They should be able to play with hands together fairly easily. Does an adult need to be present for the class? Maybe. If the student is highly motivated and can independently interact with an online class, then no parent presence is needed. However, if the student needs help navigating the structure of an online class or needs reminders to stay on task, a parent present is requested. Do I need a piano book for this course? No. The material to be learned is provided. Can I use an electronic piano? Yes. Any piano that can make an audible sound loud enough so that it can be heard through the online class is fine. Can I use headphones? No. This would prevent the teacher from hearing the student's performance and providing accurate feedback. Will there be homework? No. Feedback about each student's abilities and suggestions for improvements will be given after class.
Learning Goals
The beginner level student will improve their piano playing technique and memorize these 5-note scales and arpeggios which are fundamental to playing all piano songs.
