Course Description:

This course consists of 6 "traditional style" piano lessons based on the book Faber Piano Adventures Level 2A. Each learner will need a copy of this book for the class. Throughout this course learners will focus on reading notes and interpreting music symbols. Learners will be presented with visuals of the songs as well as a keyboard visual to facilitate understanding throughout the lesson. During each class, learners will review previous songs and terms, learn new songs, and demonstrate good piano playing technique. Learners will learn up to 5 songs throughout this course.

Learners should practice between classes to improve their skills and prepare for class. Learners will be given a "Piano Progress Chart" to keep track of practicing.

Music theory in this course includes note reading, dynamics, phrasing, ritardando, half steps, sharp, flat, and natural.

This course is designed to follow Level 2A, Part 2 piano instruction. Learners should know how to count music in basic meters, read notes, and play with both hands.

Texas Teaching Certificate in Music/Theater/Arts
Hello! My name is Mrs. McArthur and I teach MUSIC! I am a Texas certified all-level music teacher with 29 years of teaching experience, 26 years in public schools and 3 years online and homeschool experience. I have taught preschool through eighth grade General Music and Choir classes. I received a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education with an emphasis in vocal music from Oklahoma Baptist University.

I believe that every learner can make music! Learners need a variety of experiences to learn music skills, including visual, aural and kinesthetic. Given sequential steps, students can achieve well beyond the expectations. When creativity is modeled, learners discover that making mistakes improves music. Learners need opportunities to be creative with choices so they can create on their own terms and interests. By making connections to science, social studies, math and beyond, students learn that subjects don’t exist in isolation. Music is the universal language and learners deserve a chance to explore the world through a musical lens!
