Description
Class Experience
This course consists of 6 piano lessons based on downloadable piano music. Learners will focus on using note names as they play more challenging music. Learners will be presented with visuals of the songs as well as a keyboard visual to facilitate understanding throughout class. During each class, learners will review previous music terms and songs, sight read a short musical example, learn new songs and skills, and demonstrate good piano playing technique. The learner will read and play notes on the treble staff and bass staff. National Music Standards *MU:Pr4.2.6b When analyzing selected music, read and identify by name or function standard symbols for rhythm, pitch, articulation, and dynamics. *MU:Pr6.1.5a Perform music, alone or with others, with expression, technical accuracy, and appropriate interpretation.
Listed below are the songs that will introduced each week. Song instruction will song span more than one week. Learners should continue to practice songs from previous weeks to improve skills. Learners will also have a link to view video examples of each song. The pacing of this course may be adjusted as needed. Additional songs will be added as needed. Week 1 - "The Galway Piper" Week 2 - "Turkish March" (Beethoven) Week 3 - "The Banana Boat Song" Week 4 - "Boom Boom Drum" Week 5 - "Can Can" (Offenbach) Week 6 - Review game and learners play a final performance for class
Learners need a piano/keyboard, binder or folder, and a pencil. Downloadable materials will be provided.
Learners will be informally assessed on demonstration of basic piano skills and music theory through class performance and activities.
25 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Learners will be give a link to a practice page that is just for their class. The link is on my website and will include videos of the songs recorded by me. There are also PDFs of the music with teacher notations to assist learners as they practice.
