Do you want to learn how to play the piano and learn how to read music? The best and ensure the way is to take private lessons where you can get one on one time with your instructor in which you develop a mentor relationship. Beginner students will learn how to play songs from their method book, as the student's you will explore music different styles from classical to folk to ragtime to pop. Advanced students(level and lesson length determined by the instructor) will focus on classical music. Lessons are offered for any level for the piano. Additional times beyond the open sections may be arranged; just send me a message! Each week, you will have a lesson where you play what you have worked on the previous week, and I will give you feedback and guidance/tips to improve the song to make it performance worthy. I will be using two different cameras, so I will be able to demonstrated technique and hand positions if needed. I follow several different method books, but I also supplement those with technique warmups and "fun" pieces that you help choose! Beginner students will be required to buy the Piano Adventure Primer Level Lesson and theory book for lessons. I tailor instruction to meet their personal goals. I would love to guide you on your journey! While each lesson will be different and personalized for you, these are essential components we will work on: Ear Training by listening to music frequently and thoughtfully - Fundamentals of music such as scales and arpeggios - Mastering a piece of music to get it ready to perform - Truly understanding music through both note reading and playing by ear -learning classical music with proper technique Lessons are charged 5 sessions at a time. If you start in the middle of the section, you will be prorated accordingly.
Learning Goals
Students may work on improving pieces they are playing for the school, preparing for an audition into a competition, festival, or recital, learning lots of solo pieces, or any combination of goals. In any scenario, I make sure to develop technique on the instrument, intellectual understanding of music, and intuitive musical expressivity.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Mark Weathers, but my students called me Mr. Mark. I started taking formal piano lessons when I was 10, but starting playing around when I was 7. My first passion for music from what I can remember has been showing other kids how to play some piano like Heart and Soul! I have been teaching for 8 years, and I am currently the chairman of my local Piano Festival Competition in my area, and organize meetings for all the piano teachers in my area to meet. I have been teaching piano, ukelele, cello for almost a decade full time. Teaching music has the been most rewarding thing I have ever done in my life, and I plan to do it for the rest of my life. I am an active member of Music Teacher's National Association and National Federation of Music Clubs.
I believe that music is for everyone and anyone can learn it. My role as a teacher is to help guide students towards their goals. While I am, classically trained with the piano I am open to students suggestions and questions during the learning process. Students will learn variety of styles from pop to blues to classical to jazz. I also help students with RCM exam prep for students who are interested.
I am actually a citizen of Alaska, and lived here my entire life. But a fan fact I have lived in the Phillippines for 2 years, where half of my family lives! When I'm not teaching music, I am hanging out with family, swimming in the lake, or painting! I love nature, and exploring the different opportunities Alaska offers. A fun goal would be to travel Canada and visit all 50 states in the future.
