Nolan has been playing the piano since early childhood, and completed a doctorate in piano performance at Florida State University in 2017. He has given hundreds of performances as both a soloist and collaborative pianist, and has recorded many works from the classical standard repertoire, as well as his own original compositions. He has also created a number of educational videos for pianists of all ability levels. In his teaching, he places a heavy emphasis on technique, musicality, theory, and reading skills, as well as the cultivation of good practice habits.
Consistent practice between lessons is key to progressing as a musician. Specific practice schedules will vary depending on each student's needs, but daily or near-daily practice is highly encouraged for all students. For beginners, 5-15 minutes a day will be sufficient; as the material becomes more advanced, the amount of practice will also need to increase.
30 minutes per class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
