Note reading on the music staff will be emphasized. Learners will also practice playing techniques with scales and finger exercises to improve fluency. Students will read and apply notes and symbols on the music staff. Students will apply music reading on the staff through playing various songs, as fluently as possible. Students will learn at least 3 major scales and arpeggios.
Consistent practice is important for student progress. Learners will be expected to practice a minimum of 20-30 minutes for at least 5 days out of the week. Worksheets and online quizzes will be assigned weekly.
A piano or keyboard is required for this class. Music will be sent in PDF files that must be downloaded and/or printed out before each class. If printing materials, please organize them in a 3 ring binder or folder. If only downloading, please position the device so the learner may face the device and piano/keyboard at the same time, if possible. Learner will need a spiral notebook or paper and a pencil handy for each class.
Learners will be informally assessed through written reports and a checklist.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
This course relies heavily on materials from Interactive Piano Method, provided through a studio license. The website is www.carolmatzpiano.com Music is sent through PDF files or families may choose to purchase a hard copy book. That link will be provided upon enrollment, if requested. Other sources include music from www.cascademethod.com This music is also provided through a studio license. Parents will have the option of signing up for online activities through www.carolmatzpiano.com This is for the online quizzes/activities mentioned in the class structure, weekly lessons. If doing this, an account would be required. A link will be proved for the families to sign up. No personal contact information will be shared. Log-in information will be posted on the classroom page. Otherwise, access to this can be through class time through the teacher sign in only. The other website mentioned, www.cascademethod.com does not require any parent sign in. It is just noting material used in this class.
