Hello! I'm Matt Spitz and I teach music lessons on piano, guitar, drums, and bass for all ages. I'm also knowledgeable and experienced with musical topics such as music theory, rock music history, classical music history, music reading, composition, group playing, improvisation, arranging, Garageband, Logic Pro, and more.

My personal musical education began at age seven when I started drum lessons, later studying guitar, bass, and piano as well as playing in groups. I earned my Bachelor of the Arts in Music from Brown University in 2008 and have been teaching music and coaching ensembles ever since, working with hundreds of students to improve their skills and boost their confidence. In this same time, I've toured and recorded with my band the Van Burens, playing shows across the country and producing three records. My teaching is informed by a lifetime of creativity, collaboration, diligent practice, and live performance, as well as the thousands of hours engaging with students.

My goal is to nurture a welcoming, fun environment in which the student can discover and pursue their musical passion, developing their personal musical voice. I tailor each lesson to the individual student's interest and skill level, touching on the fundamentals of each instrument as well as learning the music of the artist/genre the student prefers. Some students have chosen to study multiple instruments with me weekly, and I encourage a well-rounded, holistic musical education.
