Description

Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
Pianists will practice and play through popular songs at their own pace, solidifying basic musical competency through note reading, rhythmic practice, count singing, and musical term review in a fun and engaging way.
Please refer to my Teacher Profile for a full description of my experience. (TLDR: I have been teaching music for 20+ years and I have a Masters of Music Degree from the Manhattan School of Music.)
Weekly practice recordings, assignments and games will be assigned for optional completion by the following Tuesday. Each assignment can be completed throughout the week, though all assignments will be accepted for two weeks after the final class posting. Pianists will be encouraged to upload video recordings by either recording directly onto the classroom page, or by recording onto a device and uploading it to the classroom page, or as a private message to me. Remember that recordings cannot be over 100MB, otherwise they will have to be compressed or uploaded to a platform like a private YouTube channel.
Required Sheet Music: Disney Latest Movie Hits https://www.halleonard.com/product/277255/disney-latest-movie-hits ~$11 Required: at least a 3-octave piano or keyboard, usually about 30+ keys. Standard electronic keyboards come with about 60+ keys and can range anywhere between ~$60-$300, new and used.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
The pianist is assessed through weekly uploaded recordings and completed assignments. Each pianist who completes assignments can get an assessment.
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Because of the nature of this class format, pianists are highly encouraged to create weekly video recordings of their practice and post it to the classroom page or privately to me. Watching the class recordings more than once is advised.

Prerequisites:
Pianists will need to know the note names on the grand staff, rhythmic notation, time and key signatures, and basic musical directions to be the most successful. It is not recommended for brand new beginners to take this course.

Pianists will be required to purchase the sheet music which has 8 songs in it. (Please see Learner Supply List.) Part 1 will consist of four songs and Part 2 will have the other four songs. Pianists do not have to do the courses in order, but Part 1 will have the easier songs than Part 2. Sheet music can not be shared.

The sheet music used has been simplified for accessibility and will not be exactly the same as the recorded version. Please make sure you look at the sample pages of the book before purchasing to make sure that this is the correct level for your pianist.

Disney Latest Movie Hits will be the course material. Pianists must buy the sheet music prior to class starting. I will not be able to provide copies of the music.
