What's included

4 live meetings
3 in-class hours
Homework
1 hour per week. Required: Alfred's Basic Piano Library Lesson Book Complete Level 1 Students are expected to play each song twice on 4 different days before the next class. There will be optional flashcards to help learn reading notes on the staff.

Class Experience

We will start with finger numbers, key names on the piano and how to find them, low versus high on the piano, easy rhythms like quarter notes and half notes. More specifically in the first class we will progress to finding middle C and playing at least 4 short songs, and an introduction to the lines and spaces in treble clef and bass clef. The second class we will start with treble clef and bass clef, right hand and left hand. We will add whole notes and dotted half notes, rests, and look at the grand staff. By the end of the second class we will add songs played reading treble clef and bass clef notes on the grand staff and holding tied notes. The third class we will play hands together and learn intervals to assist with fast and easy note reading. The fourth class will be moving forward with all this information in a new location on the piano, adding several new notes, sharps and flats. Hopefully we will be able to add staccato and legato touch techniques, fermatas and eighth notes.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I teach piano lessons to ages 6 and up. I've been teaching for 20 years. My favorite composer is Clara Schumann. I teach classical music (like Beethoven) as well as arrangements of songs from musicals (like Greatest Showman) and pop/rock (like Abba, Journey, Panic at the Disco).
