Class Experience

To give the student some experience playing on the piano, and getting comfortable with the keyboard.
The student will be able to play something that sounds pretty and that they can feel confident about playing.
The student will know where middle C is, and how the notes go in order on the piano.
The student will learn the finger numbers and how to use the right hand fingers to play in home position.
The student will get a feel for correct hand position and seating posture.
My goal is to spark the learner's interest in continuing to learn music, and to increase their confidence about learning to play an instrument.
Since May of 2020, I have been an Outschool teacher.
I have 20+ years experience, as a music teacher. I have taught piano, electric keyboard, guitar, and general music classes, in both the classroom and private settings.
I was head of the music department at a private high school in Maryland.
I taught private piano and guitar lessons at a guitar shop, for 5 years, in addition to my own private students in my studio.
My bachelor's degree is in music education, from Towson University, plus graduate studies in music education.
No formal homework
If we learn any songs in class, then I will post the song sheets in your classroom.
Depending on the learner's age and level, I may post some things, in your classroom, for them to practice.
piano or electronic keyboard
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
informal assessment
20 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Third Party Tools -
I will ask that you label the piano keys before the class, if possible. Students learn the keys faaster and can play simple songs sooner, if they have the piano keys labelled.
Occasionally I may play a song that we are going to learn, on YouTube. This is to give the student a feel for the beat of the song and how the song goes, before we learn it.
no outside sources
