In this 10-week course we will continue to play through Faber Adventures Pre-Reading Lesson Book C Part 2, pages 43-71. (It is recommended that pianists complete Lesson Book C Part 1, Lesson Book A and Lesson Book B prior to signing up.)

Class experience

Musicians will continue their piano journey with an age appropriate piano course geared at building the foundation of musical learning. This course is designed for many types of learners who need oral, visual and kinesthetic tools to motivate and inspire them to make music. Learners will practice habits, conversation, patience, and leadership skills as well as learning the basics of music.
Please refer to my teaching profile for a complete run-down of my experience. (TLDR: I have been teaching music for 20+ years, most of my jobs have involved teaching children, and I earned a Bachelors of Arts from California State University, East Bay and a Masters of Music Degree from the Manhattan School of Music.)

In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
For learners under 6, parental guidance may be needed for technical issues, help with the lessons and safety. Early learners are not expected to sit at the piano the whole time, but I hope they can stay in the room for the lesson with encouragement from caregivers. Virtual music making has its limitations and patience is appreciated.

Please understand that the Mute Function will be used throughout the class. Making music live over the internet has a few issues to consider and one of them is the Zoom "noise cancelling" algorithm; it believes music is noise, so it will cancel it out if we all play unmuted. Another issue is the internet lag which makes playing at the same time impossible. Therefore the learners will be muted while I play musical examples, then we unmute to discuss and ask questions. I will also ask for volunteers to play unmuted one at a time, during which is either a listening/practice moment or a biological break for the other learners that are muted. There will be opportunities for conversation and interaction in every lesson.
- Learners may be encouraged to move and find the beat in songs, but our dancing will be very informal. Please be aware of your learner's space and needs when moving around, and supervise when needed.
- Optional Kahoot games will be provided, accessible with a link. No additional logins are required.

Set-up:
- Please set up the computer to have Original Sound Enabled and Echo Cancellation activated. Check out this link for help doing that:
https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/115003279466-Enabling-option-to-preserve-original-sound

- Please position the computer camera to include part of the piano and student, if possible. This may mean putting the laptop off to the side of the learner, rather than in front. If this is too cumbersome, it's not the end of the world. Computers, laptops and iPads are ideal, but iPhones can be used.

- Please make sure the learner has a quiet space to learn in. Because we are using our ears a lot, it can be difficult for learners to concentrate if there is a lot of background noise or distractions. And when we are unmuted it can be hard to hear learners speak when there is background noise. If this is difficult to do, it is recommended that the learner wear headphones.
