Class Experience

This 4-week course is intended to prepare students ages 7-10 for traditional piano lessons by learning pages 48-end of Faber's Piano Adventures Method Book, Level Primer. It is a great option for creating a foundation for future lessons, as well as to gauging the learner's interest before beginning private lessons.

(If student is not familiar with the information in pp. 1-47, please see Piano Lessons Prep Course: Part 1.)

IMPORTANT: This course requires outside practice and learning. If a student falls behind and cannot catch up on their own, they may need to purchase a supplemental 30-minute class, which is not included in tuition.

In this class, students will learn the following:

-Piano note names
-Foundations of technique to ensure healthy playing
-Basics of reading musical notation (notes and rhythms)
-Pages 48-end of Faber's Piano Adventures Method Book, Level Primer

Class Structure:

This course is kept small to create the most "hands-on" virtual experience possible! All students are encouraged to ask questions and play for me at any time for affirmation or critique. Students will attend class at their own keyboard or piano and actively participate. Mics will be muted for most of class, that way students can hear me and are not distracted by their classmates.

I have two cameras, one with a side view and another with a close-up view of my hands. Students have the option to print materials before class, and class materials will be also shared to the screen for everyone to see.

Student Interaction:

Mics will be muted for most of class, meaning students will not interact with each other. However, students are allowed to ask questions at any time. There will also be class participation, during which students can share their answers/experiences.

Parental Involvement:

Adult help may be necessary for some students, depending on their prior piano experience and learning style. It is advised that siblings are enrolled in separate sections, unless one sibling is experienced and/or is known to not need adult help.

Teaching Style:

My teaching style is patient, warm, and enthusiastic. I want students to love piano as much as I do!

Required Knowledge/Experience:

Students must know pages 1-47 of Faber's Piano Adventures Method Book Level Primer and C, G, and D 5-finger patterns. Students must also know the difference between their right hand and left hand.

If students are familiar with pp. 1-47 but not 5-finger patterns, please reach out and I can provide a worksheet for them to catch up.
