“Piano 101” is a perfect introduction to Piano Lessons for Beginners or a helpful review for learners who have previous experience, but haven't played for a while. Learners will also get an idea of what I’m like as a teacher to see if we will be a good fit for future classes. Learners should have some type of Piano or Keyboard for this introductory class and Handouts will be provided in the classroom. 

MATERIAL COVERED
- Introduction to the Piano: Instrument Family/Country of Origin/the Keys/Middle 'C'
- Basic Skills for Playing: Finger Numbers and Exercises/Hand Posture and Placement on the Keys
- Simple Music Theory: Treble and Bass Clef Staff/Quarter Note/Half Note/Whole Note
- Learn how to play 2 simple songs: "Ode to Joy" and "Aura Lee"

TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL CLASS
1. It will be helpful to see learners' faces and hands during the class. Learners should be sitting at a Piano or Keyboard and have their device able to capture them from the head to their lower ribcage with both hands visible while on the keys. I will be able to offer learners feedback on the use of their hands/fingers this way during the lesson.

2. Please ensure to have all Materials ready and Handouts printed prior to starting class. This class is paced to allow just the right amount of time to cover all material and songs.

3. There may be times throughout the lesson where the learner will take notes on their handouts. Please make sure to have a space where this will be possible.

4. Ensure learners are in a quiet space or have earphones/buds to allow them to hear the teacher and stay engaged.

5. We will be using an External Resource for this class, "Kahoot". Learners will enjoy this game more if they are able to participate on a second device such as a phone or tablet. It may be possible for learners to join the game if they are taking this class on a laptop by opening a separate browser. 

6. SUPER IMPORTANT!! Please check your Zoom Audio Settings. I may not be able to hear your learner’s piano, if your Audio is not set correctly. Make sure to have your Audio Set to “Original sound for musicians” or "Original Audio" turned ON and have "Background Suppression" turned OFF.
