Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 9
Physics is the most fundamental of all the natural sciences. It is the foundation needed for those students who are considering careers in medicine, engineering, architecture, and all technical fields, including becoming an astronaut. A strong knowledge of physics is an absolute must for success in these fields. The class content is meant to be flexible and accommodate anyone with an interest in physics. There are three separate parts offered, each part meets for a sequence of four classes. Each part can be taken in any order independent of the other parts. Part 1 covers: Motion, Newton, Forces, Energy, Momentum, and Rockets. Part 2 covers: Angular Measurement, Rotation, Pressure and density, Archimedes' Principle, Waves, Sound, and Heat and temperature. Part 3 covers: Gravity, Satellites in Orbit, Atoms, Electricity, Batteries, Circuits, Magnets, and The Northern Lights.

No background knowledge is required. The age range for this class is only a guideline. Anyone interested in science and who can stay focused for 45 minutes can benefit.

Week One:
-	Measurement
-	Scalars & Vectors
-	Motion

Week Two:
-	Forces
-	Friction
-	Circular Motion

Week Three:
-	Work
-	Power
-	Kinetic & Potential Energy

Week Four:
-	Momentum
-	Rocket Motion

Unlike most teachers in physics, I will not assume you have any prior knowledge of the subject, but I will build each class from the ground up ensuring you learn the material in the most efficient way. The classes are lecture style with student participation highly encouraged. We will discuss scientific theory in each class.

Learning Goals

Students will learn scientific theory explaining many of nature's events and phenomena.

Parental Guidance
This is a lecture-style class where I do most of the talking (student questions are always encouraged and welcomed). It is not a discussion forum type of class where students spend most of the class time sharing pre-learned facts and individual opinions about science. Please keep in mind that this is a multi-day class with four meetings. There are no refunds or credits given outside of what Outschool stipulates on its website (Limited Refund Policy).
Supply List
There is no cost for any materials, as nothing is needed. Downloadable handouts are provided.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Doctoral Degree in Science from Pôle Universitaire Euclide
My name is Neil and I’ve spent a considerable amount of my life in preparation for Science Education. The result is a creative, interactive, and personalized approach to teaching the science of everyday phenomena that is part travelogue and part science lesson. I have 20 years of teaching experience as a professor. I hold a master's degree in the field of Condensed Matter Physics, and a Ph.D. in Theoretical and Applied Physics, with a specialization in Quantum Optics and Material Science. I am a published scientific author in several international journals, and I serve as an expert scientist on the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. I have traveled extensively to every continent on Earth, including all 50 States in the United States. The content of my lectures is meant to be a resource for my passion for teaching many fields of science, including Physics, Astronomy, Earth Science, Oceanography, Meteorology, Geology, and Physical Science. Anyone of any age who is curious about how our world works and our place in the Universe will be intrigued.

From dogsledding in the Arctic winters of Sweden to mountaineering uncharted landscapes of Antarctica. From trekking the Amazon Jungle of Ecuador to scaling the Cliffs of Ireland. From spelunking the caves of China to mountain biking the world’s deadliest road on Bolivia’s "Death Road.” From camping under the midnight sun in the far north of Norway and Finland to open-ocean kayaking off the Shetland Islands in the Southern Ocean’s home of killer Orca whales. From days of crossing the Andes Mountains and jungles of Peru towards Macchu Picchu to tenting in the open plains of Africa’s Masai Mara in Kenya and Tanzania’s vast Serengeti. From ice-climbing the glaciers of Alaska and volcanoes of Iceland to drifting through glow-worm caves in the Southern Alps of New Zealand and diving into Australia's Great Barrier Reef. I bring my experiences from around the world to you in the comfort of your home.

Join me on an educational adventure of exploration around the world to see science at work in some of the most remote places on Earth.
