Class Experience
This is a live class. A flex class is available. Each week in this 6-week course students will view an interesting interactive presentation. The class will include demonstrations and optional in class experiments. Most labs are prerecordings of me performing the experiment. However, I will teach each step live over zoom as we pause and work through the video. I prerecord the labs to ensure I can watch the students over zoom to help them properly perform each step. Students will be able to: Define Matter Identify Physical and Chemical Properties of Matter Describe atoms,elements, compounds and mixtures Define Law of Conservation of Mass Identify Physical and Chemical Changes of Matter Identify the States of Matter Compare and Contrast the properties of each State of Matter Define Kinetic Theory of Matter Define the Gas Law's Identify and describe the Phase Changes of Matter
Students will receive assignments/worksheets weekly that will reinforce what was learned in class. The assignments/worksheets will be submitted online using a link that I will provide in the classroom. The assignments/worksheets will provide the student with instant feedback on their progress. Parts of the assignment in which students are having trouble will be reviewed during the next class. On some weeks In addition to the optional in class experiments, students can complete optional experiments outside of the class.
Supply List for Optional Experiments: Week 1 Glass cup or clear cup -16 oz Liquids (1/3 cup) Vegetable oil Colored water Dish soap Milk – Whole Honey Dropper or turkey baster Soda cap 4 blueberries Week 2 cup of Cornstarch cup of water 1 bowl 1 spoon Week 3 after class: 4 cups of white vinegar 4 tablespoons of baking soda pot mason jar or heat safe glass glass dish or bowl spoon Week 4 Orange Juice Cup - Clear (16oz) Baking Soda Spoon Straw Week 5 Ivory soap Knife Microwave safe plate Microwave Week 6 Will be posted in the classroom at a later date
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
